From the perspective of large-scale equipment transmission systems, a girth gear is a large-diameter ring gear
typically paired with a pinion gear. Serving as the primary transmission component in large rotating machinery,
it fulfils the critical function of transmitting power to the cylinder or drum.
It features a large diameter (typically exceeding 1 metre, with maximum diameters reaching tens of metres),
numerous teeth, and a robust, heavy-duty construction. Advantages include exceptional load-bearing capacity,
transmission of immense torque, stable gear ratios, suitability for low-speed, heavy-load transmission requirements
in large machinery, and high operational reliability.
The girth gear is typically fixed at the end or mid-section of a large rotating cylinder (such as in ball mills or rotary kilns),
meshing with a pinion gear mounted on a fixed base. When the pinion is rotated by an electric motor,
the meshing action drives the girth gear and the connected cylinder to rotate synchronously.
The difference in tooth count between the two components achieves reduction transmission,
efficiently transferring power to the cylinder to accomplish processes such as material grinding and calcination.
